Iguanas, brunch highlight Casa Borrega's New Year's events
The Iguanas perform at the Sheraton New Orleans Fais Do Do stage Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
The Iguanas take the stage at 9 p.m. New Year's Eve, playing their danceable Mexican-American roots music till 1 a.m.. This is the first time The Iguanas are bringing their traditional New Year's Eve performance to Casa Borrega.
Alexis "Papo" Guevara will open for the Iguanas at 7 p.m. with his Afro Cuban sound, including Buena Vista Social Club favorites. On New Year's Eve, offerings will include tequila cocktails and tapas instead of the usual formal dinner service. On New Year's Day, Casa Borrega will serve more mezcal and tequila cocktails along with Menudo and Pozole, famous Mexican hangover cures.
Casa Borrega is a Mexican Restaurant and Latin Cultural Center at 1719 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., 504.427.0654. It is a showcase of recycled building materials and creative reuse, as well as an anchor in the redevelopment of historic Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard. Casa Borrega also supports many community organizations, hosting fundraisers and cultural events.
